Jennifer Castle Reflects on Andy Burnham's Labour Conference Speech
There was much talk about housing at this week’s Labour Party Conference, with Andy Burnham making his debut Conference speech as Prime Minister.
Burnham acknowledges that a good home is an ‘essential everyone needs for a good life’, and that stable housing is foundational for health, education and opportunities.
Several solutions were discussed at the conference, including the use of modular homes, bringing empty homes back into use, and empowering councils to build again on affordable, unused public land, although exact delivery plans remain unclear.
Jennifer Castle, COO at LHC Procurement Group comments:
“With over a million people on housing waiting lists in England alone, and 177,000 children living in temporary accommodation, accelerating housing delivery and regeneration programmes is a fundamental part of tackling the housing crisis. However, funding options and clear routes to delivery are still needed from the government to instil confidence that these ambitions can be met.
“As a framework provider we are perfectly positioned to act upon the proposed devolution structure, and so we welcome the approach. Our regionally placed offices work closely with, and understand the needs of, their local communities, helping to deliver projects that respond to local priorities and challenges.
The aim is to not just build houses, but create safe, secure and sustainable homes that support thriving communities for years to come. We now look towards the Autumn budget in the hope it provides clearer answers.”
